CA Legislative LGBTQ Caucus Chair Asm. Evan Low, Vice Chair Sen. Susan Talamantes Eggman issuejoint statement on President Biden ending transgender military ban

“To President Biden: Thank you for recognizing the dignity of all patriotic Americans who arewilling to serve. Reversing the unjust and discriminatory ban on transgender service members will save lives, and we are grateful to the President for following through on one of his most important campaign promises. The previous administration’s decision to ban transgender service members was based on nothing more than hate. We should also acknowledge this was just one of numerous attacks made on the LGBTQ+ community. Today, however, is a day to celebrate as we move forward in the name of equality and respect. The United States is stronger — and our country is safer — when we protect our ransgender service members. We also want to thank the transgender service members who have served with honor, even when our country failed to show its appreciation for their service.”
