LGBT Caucus Statement on Missouri’s Antigay Constitutional Amendment
SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Legislative Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Caucus issued a statement in support of Missouri legislators who are currently filibustering Senate Joint Resolution 39, a measure advancing an amendment to the Missouri constitution that would provide protections to individuals and organizations who oppose marriage equality.
“What we are seeing in Missouri is nothing new. There are campaigns proliferating across the country that target some of the most vulnerable members of the LGBT community, put forward by interests who are unable or unwilling to recognize they are on the wrong side of history. We, as members of the LGBT Caucus, openly applaud and offer our solidarity and support to the Missouri legislators who are doing all they can to halt an antigay constitutional amendment from progressing any further. We call on other members of the Missouri legislature to join the countless of individuals, organizations and businesses who also believe in fairness for all.”
