Assemblyman Gordon Re-Elected to Serve as LGBT Caucus Chair

SACRAMENTO, CA - Today, Assemblyman Rich Gordon (Menlo Park) was re-elected to serve a second term as Chair of the Californian Legislative Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender (LGBT) Caucus.

“It is an honor to return as the LGBT Caucus Chair,” said Gordon. “2013 will be a critical year for the LGBT community - not just in California, but nationwide.  Still marveling at the historic election this past November where three states extended marriage rights to same-sex couples and a fourth state rejected a constitutional amendment to define marriage between “a man and a woman,” we now look ahead to the anticipated Supreme Court ruling on the fate of California’s Prop 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.  I look forward to continuing working with my colleagues in representing the needs and concerns of not only our community, but those of all Californians. We have much more work to do.”

Originally formed in 2002, the LGBT Caucus serves as a forum for the California Legislature to discuss issues that affect LGBT Californians and to further the goal of equality and justice for all residents in the State. Comprised of both Senate and Assembly members, the LGBT Caucus members include: Speaker John A. Pérez; Assemblymembers Tom Ammiano, Toni Atkins, Susan Eggman; Senators Cathleen Galgiani, Ricardo Lara, and Mark Leno. The Caucus’ formation made California the first state in the country to recognize an official caucus of openly-LGBT state legislators.
