Soni Wolf
Soni Wolf, born on September 19, 1948, in Rhode Island, was an influential American lesbian activist and a pioneering figure in the LGBTQ+ community. After serving as a medic in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, she moved to San Francisco’s Castro District. There, in 1976, she co-founded Dykes on Bikes (DOB), a group that became a powerful symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and empowerment. Wolf played a crucial role in securing the legal right to use the “Dykes on Bikes” name and logo, winning significant trademark battles against the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Throughout her life, she nurtured DOB’s growth into a global organization, engaging in philanthropic work for LGBTQ+ causes. Wolf passed away on April 25, 2018, in Daly City, California, leaving a lasting legacy honored by her inclusion on the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor at the Stonewall Inn.
